The international multimedia exhibition The Garden of Synthetic Delights, curated by Ioana Iuna Șerban, took place from October 3–12, 2025 at UPT Campus Creativ, Timișoara. The event brought together ten international and Romanian artists and collectives exploring posthuman futures, the hybridization of nature and technology, and the boundaries between human and non-human.

Inspired by Hieronymus Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delights, the exhibition constructs a post-natural world in which pleasures take digital forms and ecosystems are technologically augmented. In this universe, technology not only shapes the environment but becomes a tool for empathy and the exploration of otherness.

Visitors encounter interactive digital ecosystems, luminous 3D-printed sculptures, sound installations, and VR experiences, each contributing to an immersive space where nature is rewritten and reimagined.

From the curator’s perspective, the posthumanism proposed here is not merely human augmentation or robotization, but transformation and reconnection with other species. The exhibition challenges transhumanist narratives of human supremacy through advanced technology and explores what it terms “inventive mercy”—the attention and creativity directed toward other beings, whether animal, plant, or object.

The works on display transform the natural flow of life: Tote Tiere Maarten reinvents dead animals in an artificial paradise; Aural Eye and Ethics of Joy create memory ecosystems and hybrid species; Dragoș Dogioiu explores the grotesque of human-nature interaction in VR; Nina Koželj and Ștefan Radu Crețu highlight nature-inspired mechanisms, from programmed dandelions to steampunk flamingos. 13m10j and Saint Machine directly engage visitors, turning human presence into a catalyst for synthetic worlds.

The Garden of Synthetic Delights becomes a critical posthuman laboratory—a space to interrogate the limits of the human, the artificial, and the continuity between self and other, while maintaining ethical and affective awareness of all forms of life.

The exhibition also featured guided tours for students, artist talks, and discussions on the role of artificial intelligence in art, fostering vital dialogues about our technological future and our relationship with the non-human world.

The Garden of Synthetic Delights project is initiated by Ethics of Joy and co-funded by the Romanian National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN).

Expoziţia internaţională multimedia "Grădina deliciilor sintetice", curatoriată de Ioana Iuna Şerban, a avut loc între 3 şi 12 octombrie 2025, la UPT Campus Creativ Timişoara. Evenimentul reuneşte zece artişti şi colective internaţionale şi româneşti, care explorează viitorurile postumane, hibridizarea naturii şi tehnologiei, precum şi graniţele dintre uman şi non-uman.

Inspirată de "Grădina Deliciilor Pământeşti" a lui Hieronymus Bosch, expoziţia construieşte o lume postnaturală în care plăcerile capătă forme digitale, iar ecosistemele sunt augmentate tehnologic. În acest univers, tehnologia nu doar modelează mediul, ci devine instrument de empatie şi experimentare a alterităţii.

Publicul descoperă ecosisteme digitale interactive, sculpturi luminoase realizate prin printare 3D, instalaţii sonore şi VR, fiecare contribuind la un spaţiu imersiv în care natura este rescrisă şi reimaginată.

Din perspectiva curatorului, postumanismul propus aici nu înseamnă simpla robotizare sau augmentare umană, ci transformare şi reconectare la celelalte specii. Expoziţia pune sub semnul întrebării transumanismul care promovează supremaţia omului prin tehnologii avansate şi explorează dimensiunea „misericordiei inventive” - atenţia şi inventivitatea faţă de alte fiinţe, fie ele animale, vegetale sau chiar obiecte.

Lucrările expuse transformă fluxul natural al vieţii: Tote Tiere Maarten reinventează animalele moarte într-un paradis artificial; Aural Eye şi Ethics of Joy construiesc ecosisteme-memorie şi specii hibride; Dragoş Dogioiu explorează grotescul interacţiunii om-natură în VR; Nina Koželj şi Ştefan Radu Creţu aduc în prim-plan mecanisme inspirate de natură, de la păpădii programate la flamingo steampunk. 13m10j şi Saint Machine implică direct vizitatorul, transformând prezenţa umană într-un catalizator al ţesutului sintetic.

Grădina Deliciilor Sintetice devine un laborator critic al postumanismului, un spaţiu în care interogăm limitele umanului, artificialul şi continuitatea dintre sine şi alteritate, fără a pierde din vedere ecologia afectivă şi morală a fiecărei forme de viaţă.

Expoziţia include tururi ghidate pentru elevii şi studenţii instituţiilor partenere, artist talks şi dezbateri despre rolul inteligenţei artificiale în artă, deschizând dialoguri necesare despre viitorul tehnologic şi relaţia noastră cu lumea non-umană.
